Selection Process

Parents and Players,

The tryouts for this season have been some of the best and most difficult tryouts in LHS history. The players have made this a very difficult selection for the coaches this year. You guys showed up in excellent shape and worked incredibly hard. Overall we are incredibly impressed with the talent level of the players as well as their motivation and work ethic.

Soccer is a game that is very rhythmical and participation is unfortunately limited to 11 players at a time. This year we had over 60 players tryout and almost every one of them could start at any other program in town. It is impossible for us to manage 60 players in our program and in order for our teams to be successful we need to narrow our numbers so each player can receive adequate training and play time.

All 5 of our coaches have watched the players for the past 3 days. Tonight after the last tryout we will meet and each one of us will have an equal vote on each and every player. At the end of the evening we will have selected a Varsity, JV and Freshmen/Sophomore team. After the teams are selected we will post the unofficial team selections on our website lhsmenssoccer.blogspot.com. During the day Thursday Madame Cheramie will conduct the final eligibility and grade check. All selected eligible players are then invited to attend our first practice at 5:15pm at Moore Park Field 18 on Thursday October 30th.

It has been my privilege to have you all at our tryout the past 3 days. If you are not selected I encourage you to work hard in the offseason and try again next year. If you are one of the fortunate ones who is invited to join the team I ask that you do not take your decision to accept your invitation lightly. You will join us not as an individual but as a player looking to be part of a whole. Do not join this squad if you have dreams of individual glory! Join this squad for the opportunity to wear the LHS jersey and to be part of something far greater than the individual. I make no promises or guaranties of playing time or positions. Join us for the opportunity to achieve goals far loftier than those that can be reached by an individual. Remember, it is the team that will be the champion not the individual.

Go Lions!!!!
