The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
This is the quote I chose this year to represent our team knowing we would have many challenges to overcome. We knew this group of Seniors were facing their 3rd head coach and 4th training staff in 4 years. We knew the varsity group was made up of players from 6 different premier teams and 3 different division one teams. We also knew this group would be playing under pressure of the ghost of past LHS teams. In addition this squad has had to fight through major injuries, the permanent loss of starting players, and major illnesses. With the weight of all this, lesser men would have thrown in the towel long ago.
Since January 15th this team has been on a 6 game winning streak. Including 3 crucial games in the past 4 days. The teamwork, attitude, desire, and work ethic they have shown recently has been extraordinary!!! Every player in the program has contributed significantly on the field and off. Early in the year we were looking for leadership. Now I feel we have as if we have 30 leaders! The players have been unselfish and their play has been inspiring. We have truly evolved into a team.
Last night was special. After winning 2 major games in the previous 3 days our sick and walking wounded proved they were the class of district 4. To quote one of our parents "A lesser team would have panicked and/or folded after getting down 2-0 last night in the cold and wind, but this team has developed a mental toughness and competitiveness that has evolved into a strong will to win." The players have been "measured" and have proven not to be men, but to be Lions!!
At the beginning of this year we set 3 goals for the team:
1. Experience the true meaning of teamwork. For the team to experience a sense of accomplishment that is greater than any one of them could have achieved individually.
2. Win District
3. Win State
In the past few days we have accomplished the first 2 goals. Join us in supporting the team as we build on the first 2 and strive for the 3rd!!! Our march through state starts this Saturday at 12:00 Noon at LHS against Byrd High School from Shreveport.
Geaux Lions!!!!!
